MAUI IMPROV is a 501(c)(3) All-Volunteer, Educational Non-profit,
creating opportunities to improvise on the island of Maui!
Since late 2013 and early 2014, under the founding guidance of Mike Burton with valuable assistance from Mark Beltzman, our mission has been to provide educational and live performance opportunities with drop-in classes, special visiting celebrity guest teacher workshops, showcase performances and celebrity showcase performances! Our first love is long-form improvisation. Come join the fun and we’ll laugh with you then! We’re also available for corporate events, visiting senior centers, schools and other organizations to share our craft! In 2023 the readers of Maui Times nominated us as Maui’s Best Theater Company! Mahalo!
Over the years we’ve hosted some of the biggest names in the Improv World, some for multiple or yearly visits, to share their instructional and performance expertise in this always evolving Improv landscape! Over the last decade we’ve been proud to bring David Razowsky, JD Walsh, Amey Goerlich, Michael Burton, Mark Beltzman, Jaime Moyer, Rick Andrews, Micah Sherman, Kevin Scott, Elana Fishbein, Cooper Shaw, Mike Staffa, Allison Dembek, Nate Starkey, Geoff Grimwood, Bobbi Brooks, Rachel Rosenthal, Will Luera, Hanna Chase, Michael Gellman, Bill Binder, Jill Bernard, Bradford Jordan, Ora Fruchtar, Rachel Hamilton, Louis Kornfeld and Kimee Balmilero to the Maui stage!
Our current Board of Directors include Forest, our Managing Director, Moses body double, Mana’o Radio Blue Bus Driver and occasional Instructor, Betsy, our Treasurer and object-work goddess, Helen, our sometimes Bulgarian speaking Communications Director and Kevin, aka Heavy Kevy, our over-caffeinated Creative Director and in-house Instructor.
We are an unpaid, all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit with deep, unwavering gratitude and additional shout-outs to Marie, zee French Pineapple Lady, for her zesty website creation, Doris, our town crier and the woman who knows all, Joel, our over-the-line Secretary, and both Kim & Eric, inspirational assistants in the world of YouTube and graphics. Additional kudos to Ruby for show productions, Adam for video camera work and Matt our in-house instructor emeritus. Sadly, along the way, we’ve lost some beloved comrades in arms, Pat, Maggie, Michael, Ruth and Scott – all now performing at Club Afterlife. RII (Rest in Improv)! WE LOVE Y’ALL!
